The phrase “as anyone had need” is part of the Solace Foundation's logo. It comes from the book of Acts in the Bible and tells of the early Christian church, who as a group of people, looked after and took care of all who had need. That we included this in our logo is a telling tribute to that group who fed those who were hungry, clothed the naked, cared for the sick, outcast and orphan. And most important, it is a resounding call and determined mission of ours to follow those early Samaritans. It is a good mission putting others first.
Much of what this mission entails is the recognition that it is a work that must be done. It is a reflection of the Golden Rule in profound ways: seeing the need, taking on the full responsibility, and seeing it through to the end. It is compassion that says, “He ain't heavy, he's my brother.”
Internationally, we support seven orphanages in India and Mexico.
In the United States, our goal of reaching into local communities with help to single parent families is in development. Of the estimated 107,366,878 households, 8,145,233 households are female single parents with children (7.6% of US households). And 38% of these families live below the poverty level. *2002 US Census data
Together, we are making a difference in their lives by giving them hope, friendship, and a loving hand up. “As anyone had need” is not just a slogan. - krh |
