In a world so often characterized by self-indulgence, and materialism, Jimmy Breslin, a columnist for New York Newsday magazine, lays it out for us in clear and unavoidable terms.
Too often, we are paralyzed into inaction because we see the need as so overwhelming. And without question, the needs are beyond us, simply because of the human condition. Poverty, violence, broken homes will always be with us. We cannot solve all the problems because many of them are without reachable solutions.
But consider, if you will, the impact you can have by helping one at a time. Befriending one at a time. It is a noble effort that can have generational benefits. There can be no higher calling than to help another in desperate need.
Done one at a time, our efforts to help others become building blocks into the lives of those who literally are overwhelmed and desperate in their struggle to pursue happiness.
This past season, we have seen single mothers help and support each other when they themselves were in crisis. And we have seen them reach out to others who are diseased and give the shoes from their own feet to cover the feet of one who had no shoes. These are truly inspiring scenes.
And these efforts spread as others see what can be done, and enlist themselves into the task at hand. And the task we at Solace Foundation have is to build homes and give support to these families in a desperate struggle themselves. We cannot do it all, nor do we even try. We simply do whatever we can, and give to them “as any had need”. We start where we see the need, and trust God.
Join with us as we pursue this, and take up the cause of the widow and orphan in our society.
Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these families and children. Together, we can bring hope to desperate circumstances. We can help and support them, and let them know they are not alone. By working to help save a life, we save someones world.
Jimmy Breslin had it right. Save a life... ...save a world! KRH |
